Not sure if it is because of the holidays, or if I am ever so burnt out and ready to “check out” for a while, but peace is just what I need! Enter, Sorrisniva Igloo Hotel located near the northern tip of Norway, just west of Stabbursdalen National Park. Expect a “warm service” building to store your luggage, use the restroom, shower, and oh yeah, warm up! The igloo rooms themselves are simply furnished with an ice bed covered in “mattresses” aka natural reindeer hides. While not the romantic movie scene you imagine with skin on skin and hides with a fire blazing in an igloo (they recommend wool long johns)- the scene is none the less amazing. Remember Northern Lights are active from November to January, so it is an amazing opportunity to enjoy the skies and retire to your igloo. The hotel can arrange snowmobiling, dog sledding and there are two restaurants to choose from. Just the kind of peace I am looking for!
